We wish to use the Approval Status field in Marketing Plans and Marketing Budget Requests without invoking the standard Siebel Approvals processs (i.e. a popup applet appears to send an alert to another employee in their universal inbox that approval has been requested/given etc).
Siebel bookshelf explains that simply setting the "Show Approval Popup" Business Component User Property to No instead of Yes will stop this behavior. Applying this change does indeed prevent the popup box appearing.

However, in Marketing Plans, after selecting the new value from the pickist for Approval Status and then saving, the field reverts to its original value. If you step to another record in the list applet then the changed value is saved. In Marketing Budget Requests the field reverts back to the original value by both explicitly saving and stepping off the record.

So the new value is pickable via the picklist and the new value is displayed in on the applet after picking but then, after saving, the value is not saved and the original value is kept.

Additionally, when this field is changed an audit of the Approval status is kept in the Approval History field ("MKTG Approval Process" BusComp). We do not wish for this functionality to occur.
