Cancel of F9 Email is too slow (Doc ID 534482.1)

Symptoms

SBL-DAT-00144

When pressing Cancel button of F9 Email, the application hangs for a long time and finally returns after 2-3 mins. However, the same problem is not faced if "X" (window close) button is pressed.
We are invoking this from Service Request-Activity Screen. The difference obviously is the deletion of activity (and activity related) records in the case of former. We would like to know a way to speed up this process as it is greatly affecting application performance.
