HSM (SAM-QFS): Why the "touch" command will not cause a file to re-archive
(Doc ID 1001818.1)
Last updated on JUNE 25, 2019
Applies to:
Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 3.5 and laterSun StorageTek Utilization Suite Software - Version 3.5 and later

Goal
The Unix(R) touch command will update the file's modification time without modifying the file contents. In the SAM-FS file system, if the user uses the touch command on a file that has already been created and archived, it will not cause the file to re-archive.
The modification time of the file will change, but the file will not re-archive.
