Solaris 10 1/06 Issue-

The following issues apply to the Solaris 10 Update 1 January 2006 release.
x86: Graphics of Sun Java Desktop System might not load when the resolution of the 3rd party graphics card defaults to a low end 256 colors.

The graphics of the Sun Java Desktop System (Java DS) might fail to start the GUI login after the installation of Solaris 10 1/06 software; however CDE loads as expected. It might fail in the following manner:

at the GUI login it defaults to JDS

It might just freeze with a cursor and a wallpaper. At which point you may need to powercycle.

# /usr/bin/gdm -- still the same -- got stuck with a cursor and wallpaper

# /usr/openwin/bin/xdm -- this works fine but no GUI, kind of console mode in GUI environment.

The error is observed on systems that use certain graphics cards such as those found in Dell PowerEdge 1800, 1850, 2850.
