How do I add swap space to a Solaris system? (Doc ID 1002656.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 18, 2023

Applies to:

Solaris x64/x86 Operating System - Version 10 and later
Solaris Operating System - Version 10 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)

Goal

In the Solaris release, swap space is used as virtual memory storage areas when the system does not have enough physical memory to handle current processes. You might have to add swap space to your system if it does not have enough swap space or if recommended by your software application vendor.
