Tuning the fp and fcp driver timeouts for faster path failover (Doc ID 1002789.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 05, 2022

Applies to:

Sun Storage Traffic Manager Software - Version 3.0 and later
Solaris Operating System - Version 8 and later
All Platforms

Goal

Description
These values determine how long the host will wait before offlining the device, after which the multi-pathing module (e.g. Sun STMS a.k.a. MPxIO) starts the failover process. The previously fixed values have now been made into tunables, and can be configured for a faster failover process, but please see the warnings below.

The Sun SAN Foundation Suite driver stack (also known as "Leadville", STMS or MPXIO) has two timers built-in, to offline devices when they go missing. When the link goes offline or there is a change in the configuration, these timers start ticking and when they expire, the host offlines the devices via that path.
