Last updated on MARCH 30, 2021

Solaris Operating System - Version 8 and later
All Platforms

Purpose

Symptoms
In Solaris[TM] 8, mailx and Sendmail commands can be used to send email without the Sendmail daemon running. For example:

 # echo "test mail" | mailx -s "test mail" sample_user@domain_name.com

However, in Solaris 9 and Solaris 10, by default, the email will not be delivered and will remain in /var/spool/clientmqueue if the Sendmail daemons are not running.
