SAM-QFS: Releasing Partial Files That Have Not Been Accessed For a Period of Time to Regain Disk Cache (Doc ID 1004757.1)

Last updated on JULY 12, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 3.5 and later
All Platforms

Goal

If the partial release option is used on a file system, the disk cache can become full with just file stubs. The focus of this document is to manage the disk cache so that files that have not been accessed over a period of time will be completely released from disk cache. This process will remove the file stub (for the selected files) in the disk cache. This process will not physically remove any file from the file system. If the user uses the ls(1) command they will see the file name.
