Purpose

In May of 1998, Sun entered into an agreement with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to have the IETF assume change control of the NFS protocol.  After many Internet Drafts, a lot of prototype work, and a couple of RFCs, RFC3530 "Network File System (NFS) version 4 Protocol" was released in April of 2003.    This document summarizes the goals and enhancments which are part of NFS version 4.
