Symptoms

Upgrade fails with ""Error: Unable to copy a temporary file to its final location"

Problem: While performing a Solaris 2.x upgrade , the upgrade fails with:

"Error: Unable to copy a temporary file to its final location"

The above error is seen after being prompted at the software customization screen.

Example of Solaris 2.x Software customization screen:

Do you want to customize (add or delete) software for the upgrade  By
default, the existing software on the system will be upgraded. If the Select
64-bit choice is unselectable then 64-bit is currently installed and cannot
be removed without customizing.
