Goal
The purpose of this support document is to provide an overview of the NIS Naming Service.

- This document does also include a section about troubleshooting NIS.
- This document is not intended to cover in depth descriptions that can be found in other Oracle documentation, nor it does include procedures that can be found in same.
- This document does also contain references to patches and it should be noted that patches are very dynamic and the revisions may change frequently. Thus it is always best to check in https://support.oracle.com to find the latest available revision of a patch.
