How to get network traffic statistics in bytes rather than in packets (Doc ID 1007747.1)

Last updated on JULY 29, 2016

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8.0 and later
All Platforms

Goal

The netstat command can report network traffic statistics in packets, however there is no easy way to tell how many bytes were transferred. In this document, the author describes how to query this information through kstat(kernel statistics facility). A perl script is provided which mimics the functionality of netstat -i with additional statistics in bytes.
