Applies to:

Solaris SPARC Operating System - Version: 10 3/05 and later   [Release: 10.0 and later ]
All Platforms

The pxb_bcm driver entry cannot be added to /etc/name_to_major through patches, and the following message appears in the /var/sadm/patch//log file. added profile to /etc/name_to_major

SUNWcsd: failed to add pxb_bcm to /etc/name_to_major:
(pxb_bcm) already in use as a driver or alias.

This issue can occur in the following situations.
Installing patch 122027-04 to -07 without patch 118833-18 (or greater) already installed on the system.

Because patch 122027-04 to -07 do not include a name_to_major file, and only have a driver_aliases file, it causes an inconsistency and add_drv(1M) fails to add the entry to the /etc/name_to_major during the patch installation of 118833-18 (or greater) and/or 122027-08.
