This document addresses handling and recovering from "System hangs" on x86 systems running Solaris.

Symptoms:
- System hang
- System is not pingable
- Can not log in
- Can not execute commands
- Can not mount shares
- Can not start/stop services
- System not responding
- System is not usable
Conditions that can cause hangs:
- Deadlock (A deadlock is a situation wherein two or more competing actions are waiting for the other to finish, and thus neither ever does.)
- Resource exhaustion
- Hardware failures
