Purpose

From time to time, hardware errors or mechanical failures can cause drives to fail in a Storage Archive Manager (SAM) environment.
This doc will discuss how to recover and how to troubleshoot the problem further. Isolating whether it's a hardware problem or software issue is the goal of this document.

If it's determined to be a tape drive hardware issue, after going through this document, please open a MOS Service Request (SR) against a drive tray serial number.
