Solaris USB Driver Quick Reference (Doc ID 1009526.1)

Last updated on MAY 29, 2021

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8.0 and later
All Platforms

Goal

This document helps clarify the current Solaris usb drivers. It identifies both the original and newer Dual Framework drivers and the devices they support.

Use it to help troubleshoot a usb problem. Confirm the correct usb driver is loaded/not loaded for the particular device by checking messages log for the driver.

Ex.

If installing USB to Serial adapter check messages file to make sure usbser_edge0 is listed and online after attaching the usb to serial device. Should it not be listed but usba10_usb_mid is listed this would be incorrect. This is the default driver when the correct class driver is not available.
Class compliant devices need to have a class driver to work.

Correct.
/pci@1f,0/usb@c,3/device@1/interface@0 (usbser_edge0) online

Incorrect.
/pci@1f,0/usb@c,3/device@1/interface@0 (usba10_usb_mid) online
