Provide guidelines on how to migrate from one media type to another media type (tape or disk), while minimally impacting SAM-QFS and system resources.
The migration plan provided to a site is based on the actual hardware (disk and tape) that is available in the current environment.
The size of the disk cache, the number of tape drives available, and the current activity of the file system play a role in this migration and must be considered when developing the migration strategy.
If the disk cache is too small to stage an entire piece of media, then the number of files requested to be staged should be reduced.
If a system has a limited number of tape drives, then the staging and archiving processes need to be throttled. This will allow the new files to be archived without impacting normal operations.
