Warning add_spec: No major number for SUNW,qlc@5 disabling STMS HBA paths in /kernel/drv/fp.conf on some Sun Fire[TM] servers (Doc ID 1010884.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 05, 2022

Applies to:

Sun Storage Traffic Manager Software - Version 3.0 and later
All Platforms

Symptoms

Errors like the following can occur at boot time from misconfigured /kernel/drv/fp.conf files on some Sun Fire[TM] servers:

WARNING: add_spec: No major number for SUNW,qlc@5
WARNING: add_spec: No major number for SUNW,qlc@4

Also, this will prevent MPXIO from disabling the HBA path when MPXIO is enabled globally in the /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf file.

The servers affected will be higher end servers like the Sun Fire[TM] 4800, 6800, 15k. These are the servers that have the "/ssm@" as part of their device trees. Smaller Sun Fire servers like the Sun Fire[TM] 280R and 480R will not have these as part of their device paths.

This example is from a Sun Fire 4800 server.
