Last updated on JULY 06, 2023

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8 and later
All Platforms

Symptoms

While examining a process's behavior with pstack, pmap, pldd, truss, and other commands (known in this document as a "process monitoring utility"), an error message from the utility indicating that the target process is already being traced may be displayed:

[pstack|pmap|pldd]: cannot examine : process is traced

These process monitoring utility commands are used either to trace the execution of a process or to gain information about internal details of a process.
