Automount /net mounts cannot use the public mount option when rpcbind or mountd port access is blocked (Doc ID 1012113.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 08, 2019

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8.0 and later
All Platforms

Symptoms

Automount /net mounts cannot use the public mount option when rpcbind or mountd port access is blocked.

In network environments where a firewall restricts access to the rpcbind port (port 111) and/or the range of random ports that mountd will listen on, the public mount option cannot be used on /net mounts attempted to that server.

The automounted "public" mount will fail with errors such as "rpc program not registered" and "no such file or directory."
