(Doc ID 1017459.1)

Applies to:
Solaris Operating System - Version 8 and laterAll Platforms
Symptoms
Commands may mysteriously fail with permission related errors even though the mode, owner and group of the current directory and permissions appear to be correct.
Typical messages seen at a user level are:
-
pwd: cannot determine current directory!
-
ls -alt: ./..: Permission denied
-
find: cannot open .: Permission denied
-
df: cannot canonicalize .: Permission denied
-
df: (.. ) not a block device, directory or mounted resource
-
rm: cannot determine if this is an ancestor of the current working directory
This problem usually shows up for non-root users when trying to access some mounted filesystem (not the root directory)
