No response to console input when booting to single user mode (Doc ID 1017840.1)

When the system boots in to single user mode, the console does not respond to any input. Console input is accepted without any problems at the OBP ok prompt or in multi-user mode.
Also, the console output during boot may be output in a stair-stepped manner.
