Goal

Why does "uname -i" show "sun4v" instead of the specific platform name?


For example the T5140 shows the specific platform name in the uname output:

# uname -i
SUNW,T5140


# uname -a
SunOS <HOSTNAME> 5.10 Generic_144488-06 sun4v sparc SUNW,T5140


However, the T3-2 does not show the specific platform name in the uname output:

# uname -i
sun4v

# uname -a
SunOS <HOSTNAME> 5.10 Generic_142909-17 sun4v sparc sun4v
