Information in this document applies to any platform.
Purpose
This support note is to provide an official statement of certification for using Oracle's Desktop Virtualization products in connection with any/all other Oracle application software that is supported to run within an internet browser environment.
Scope
Statement of Support
The use of Oracle Desktop Virtualization products and technologies described in this support note in connection with Oracle software (applications, middleware, and technology products, etc.), is fully certified by Oracle subject to any additional information specified in the Additional Information and Restrictions on Certified Use section provided below.
Customer support experience: The support experience for Oracle customers when using Sun Ray Client hardware with Sun Ray Server software, with Oracle VDI, or with Oracle Secure Global Desktop software is equivalent to the support experience for Oracle customers when using a personal computer/device with local browser execution.
Default certification/support for all new Oracle software releases: By default, for current and all new Oracle application software releases going forward, any internet browser and operating system combination certified by the application itself is certified for use with the desktop virtualization products unless the combination is not supported by the desktop virtualization product in question or unless otherwise referenced in this support note.
See below for Additional Information or Restrictions on Certified Use.
This support note is to provide an official statement of certification for using Oracle's Desktop Virtualization products in connection with any/all other Oracle application software that is supported to run within an internet browser environment
Context
What are commonly known as "Desktop Virtualization" products are often used by end-users or administrators to remotely access server-hosted applications (including Oracle applications), and/or server-hosted virtual machines containing individual user desktop environments.
Desktop Virtualization products allow all or portions of a user's application and/or desktop environments (browser, client-server client, etc.) to be hosted- and execute-on data center servers rather than requiring the application client to execute locally on a PC, Mac, or mobile device. By doing so, and thus only sending display, keyboard, and mouse traffic over LAN and WAN from the server to the display device, Desktop Virtualization products often 1) improve data and access security, 2) ease client distribution and deployment requirements, and 3) can often improve the end-user experience through improved performance.
As a result of these benefits, it is common for Oracle software customers to use Oracle's Desktop Virtualization products as the access layer for their end-users or administrators in their application deployments. This document defines Oracle's policy for supported and certified usage of Oracle's Desktop Virtualization products in connection with other Oracle software products in production environments.
