Samba configured for security = domain will have net join timeout after 15 minutes of inactivity (Doc ID 1349321.1)

Last updated on APRIL 09, 2021

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 to 10 1/13 U11 [Release 10.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

A Solaris 10 system installed with the Samba patch 119757-20, Samba version 3.5.8, would not allow client access to Samba shares if there was inactivity on the shares for 15 minutes or more.

The Samba server was configured for Domain security mode, ie., security = domain in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file's [global] section.

To regain access to shares  the net join command had to be executed again to join the Windows Domain again.

This issue was encountered on the system after the Solaris 10 Samba Patch 119757-20 was installed upgrading Solaris 10's Samba from version 3.0.37 to 3.5.8.
