Last updated on SEPTEMBER 01, 2016

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 5/09 U7 and later
Sun Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) - Version 11.9.0 to 11.10.0 [Release 11.0]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86 (32-bit)

Symptoms

Running growfs may return the message "failed to disable logging" on /var or other filesystems if filesystem logging cannot be disabled.  When this happens, lockfs will also return an error.

We will use an example in which /dev/md/dsk/d50 is mounted on /var in this article.

# growfs -M /var /dev/md/rdsk/d50
failed to disable logging

# /usr/sbin/lockfs -w /var
/var: Device busy
