Symptoms

A ssh or scp connection will terminate with the following error:

Disconnecting: Corrupted MAC on input.


The message could also be recorded by sshd running in debug mode (sshd -d -d -d) as shown:

Received disconnect from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX: 2: Corrupted MAC on input.
