Symptoms

The file /var/adm/wtmpx is used to store connect time system accounting records.
In one instance, a customer activated the system accounting framework and found a huge number of sam-fsd(1M) records in wtmpx(4) , as can be seen by following command :

/usr/lib/acct/fwtmp < /var/adm/wtmpx | tail
sam-fsd sf 25590 8 0000 0000 1321371801 0 0 0 Tue Nov 15 16:43:21 2011
sam-fsd sf 25590 8 0000 0000 1321371802 0 0 0 Tue Nov 15 16:43:22 2011
sam-fsd sf 25590 8 0000 0000 1321371803 0 0 0 Tue Nov 15 16:43:23 2011
sam-fsd sf 25590 8 0000 0000 1321371803 0 0 0 Tue Nov 15 16:43:23 2011

[..]

Almost every second a new record is added to wtmpx(4) record for the sam-fsd(1M) process.

Changes

This behavior started to occur after upgrading sam-qfs from a version prior to 5.0 to a 5.x. (Ex. upgrade from 4.6.85 to 5.2.2)
