Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After the initial timeout (set with "automount -t SECS" or AUTOMOUNT_TIMEOUT=SECS in /etc/default/autofs) of a automounted directory, automountd tries to unmount a busy directory every 120 seconds.

This leads to a heavy system load on a system with many NFS mounted directory  (~300 busy mounted directories).

The automountd daemon should recheck busy directories as set by AUTOMOUNT_TIMEOUT and not permanently every 120 seconds
