Goal

ZFS deduplication (dedup) property allows automatic detection and removal of redundant blocks in the file on disk. Dedup of data block in ZFS happens synchronously while writing a transaction group. This results in substantial disk space saving if file data contains high counts of redundant blocks and improved performance by eliminating physical IO required for writing redundant blocks.
