Why does ping -s display other ICMP messages besides replies ? (Doc ID 1414588.1)

Symptoms

Using ping -s, sometimes displays other unrelated ICMP messages.

example:

# ping -s localhost
PING localhost: 56 data bytes
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=0. time=0.138 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1. time=0.0620 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2. time=0.0600 ms
ICMP Port Unreachable from gateway localhost (127.0.0.1)
 for udp from localhost (127.0.0.1) to localhost (127.0.0.1) port 33434
ICMP Port Unreachable from gateway localhost (127.0.0.1)
 for udp from localhost (127.0.0.1) to localhost (127.0.0.1) port 33435
ICMP Port Unreachable from gateway localhost (127.0.0.1)
 for udp from localhost (127.0.0.1) to localhost (127.0.0.1) port 33436
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3. time=0.0630 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=4. time=0.0480 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=5. time=0.0650 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=6. time=0.0780 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=7. time=0.0510 ms
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=8. time=0.0600 ms
