How To Run A Daemon In A Separate Contract with SMF (Doc ID 1448094.1)

Last updated on JULY 29, 2016

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 10/08 U6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

If a user restarts or starts a process or processes via the web app, that program becomes ‘associated’ with the tomcat service, ie. it shows up in the svcs –p listing as shown below:

Before running anything:

$ svcs -p ed-tomcat
STATE STIME FMRI
online Feb_29 svc:/application/eventdynamics/ed-tomcat:default
Feb_29 17471 java

After restarting a daemon process called the Poller via the web app .…

$ svcs -p ed-tomcat
STATE STIME FMRI
online Feb_29 svc:/application/eventdynamics/ed-tomcat:default
Feb_29 17471 java
16:45:03 21428 Poller

The Poller now shows up as a Tomcat service dependent process. This means that when a program is invoked from the GUI, invoked processes are ‘remembered’ as Tomcat initiated processes.
The svcs -p command shows the related process together.

Is there a way to separate this dependency by setting service configuration options or in any other way?
