Apache Start Fails With "setgid: unable to set group id to Group 4294967295" (Doc ID 1479490.1)

The Apache 2.x SMF service svc:/network/http:apache2 goes into maintenance state:

# svcs -x
svc:/network/http:apache2 (Apache 2 HTTP server)
 State: maintenance since Tue Jul 31 14:21:34 2012
Reason: Restarting too quickly.
   See: httpd(8)
   See: /var/svc/log/network-http:apache2.log
Impact: This service is not running.

 The service log file /var/svc/log/network-http:apache2.log  shows

[ Jul 31 13:21:33 Method "start" exited with status 0 ]
[ Jul 31 13:21:34 Stopping because all processes in service exited. ]
[ Jul 31 13:21:34 Executing stop method ("/lib/svc/method/http-apache2 stop") ]
httpd (pid 3144?) not running
[ Jul 31 13:21:34 Method "stop" exited with status 0 ]
[ Jul 31 13:21:34 Restarting too quickly, changing state to maintenance ]

and the Apache error log file /var/apache2/logs/error_log reveals the following issue:

[Tue Jul 31 13:21:34 2012] [alert] (22)Invalid argument: setgid: unable to set group id to Group 4294967295
