Solaris Volume Manager (SVM): metareplace Command Returns Error "unknown metadevice type" (Doc ID 1481084.1)

Last updated on APRIL 29, 2024

Applies to:

Sun Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) - Version 11.9.0 and later
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86 (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

A disk drive under Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) control has failed. The disk is subsequently replaced. Seeing as the metadevice is redundant, the metareplace command was used to resync the data back to the replaced drive.  Instead of enabling the drive, the command failed. For example.

Changes

The disk drive was swapped and all appropriate replacement procedures were used.
