Purpose

If the lpd-protocol is used Solaris printing wants to send out a printjob to printserver on a reserved port below 1024. Only root can open outgoing connections on port with low number.

  Problems with remote printing and reserved ports can occur for following reasons:
 local printqueue WITHOUT interfacescript
 other processes have used up the reserved_ports
 mis-configured networked printers
 Printing in non-global zone fails after zoneadm -z attach -u (Solaris 10 9/10 U9 and later)
