Applies to:Sun Fire T2000 Server - Version All Versions and later
Sun SPARC Enterprise T2000 Server - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Provide a customer visible document to explain the T2000 battery life expectancies.
T2000 battery that resides on the SC maintains the system real time clock (RTC) when the system is powered off.
A workaround deployed to overcome a defect in the ADM1026 battery voltage monitor chip used on T2000 MB disables
voltage monitoring averaging routine, resulting in a much higher polling frequency. Over time, this can result in
the battery draining at a relatively faster rate due to higher than expected current draw from the battery.
Field install base shows a steep failure rate with a Time-to-Failure (TTF) of 4.5 years. Battery replacement at
4 years is recommended to enable battery replacement as routine maintenance activity and avoid taking downtime
explicitly for battery replacement upon failure.
These battery replacement guidelines do not apply for Netra T2000 systems.
