Unable to Replace a Failed Disk - cfgadm -c unconfigure : Hardware Specific Failure: Failed to Unconfigure (Doc ID 1506521.1)

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 3/05 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)


Disk drive failed.

- Error encountered when attempting to unconfigure the failed drive.

   # cfgadm -c unconfigure returns Hardware specific failure: failed to unconfigure.

- Replacement drive was inserted, but format still shows that the disk is unavailable.

    # cfgadm -c configure also doesn't complete, because the device is busy.

- When the drive is pulled:

    # devfsadm -Cv  -  will not clear the disk device which is no longer in the system.

- When the new disk drive is inserted, format will recognize the new drive and format will look normal, but:

    # iostat -En - will show an extra disk device in the form, ssdx,
