Do not symbolically link /var/sadm or directories below it, Ops Center (or other Solaris/Oracle package) installs may remove the /var/sadm link (Doc ID 1508314.1)

Last updated on JULY 14, 2016

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Ops Center - Version 11g to 12cR3 (12.3) [Release 11.0 to 12.0]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Goal

Symbolic links are often used when disk storage is insufficient, but soft links are not recommended for /var/sadm or anything below it.

If such a link were present an Ops Center agent installation (may apply to other Solaris/Oracle package installations as well) may remove the /var/sadm link, and depending on the packages being installled, /var/sadm or /var/sadm/pkg may be re-installed with new directories and files (e.g. contents, etc.).

The following error may be seen during installation:

Directory is expected, found link - /var/sadm/pkg.
Failed (exit code 1)
