Do not use symbolic links for /var/sadm or dirs below it during Ops Center or other Solaris/Oracle package installations (Doc ID 1508314.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2023

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Ops Center - Version 12.1 to 12.4.0 [Release 12.0]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Goal

Symbolic links are often used when disk storage is insufficient, but soft links must not be used for /var/sadm or directories below it.

If such a link is present, an Ops Center installation or Upgrade or even other Solaris/Oracle package installations could remove the /var/sadm link, and depending on the packages being installed, /var/sadm or /var/sadm/pkg may inadvertently be replaced with entirely new directories and files (e.g. contents, etc.) and the following error may be seen during the installation:

Directory is expected, found link - /var/sadm/pkg.
Failed (exit code 1)
