### Important items to understand ###
##########################
A new approach to package updates/upgrades was implemented in Solaris 11

New key concept to understand is that unlike previous Solaris versions whenever you change a OS dependent package (up or down grade) the entire Solaris 11 OS image that has been tested with that package version is loaded.

Software developers, including Oracle, publish their software in software package repositories. Administrators access these repositories to install new systems, add or update software packages, or search for package information. In addition, administrators can make a local copy of repositories if systems reside in a network-restricted environment

  • Some NON-Oracle QLogic Fibre Channel HBAs binding to the qlc driver may load the firmware version embedded in the qlc driver at boot as well.
  • Any update to NON-Oracle QLogic Fibre Channel HBA firmware needs to come from the NON-Oracle Qlogic HBA hardware support vendor.

  • Oracle branded Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs do not automatically load firmware at boot and require a force-lip to update the firmware to the version embedded in the emlxs driver.
  • Reference Firmware Update Required. (A Manual Hba Reset Or Link Reset (Using Luxadm Or Fcadm) Is Required (Doc ID 1356876.1)
