### Important items to understand ###
##########################
A new approach to package updates/upgrades was implemented in Solaris 11
New key concept to understand is that unlike previous Solaris versions whenever you change a OS dependent package (up or down grade) the entire Solaris 11 OS image that has been tested with that package version is loaded.
Goal
Software developers, including Oracle, publish their software in software package repositories. Administrators access these repositories to install new systems, add or update software packages, or search for package information. In addition, administrators can make a local copy of repositories if systems reside in a network-restricted environment
How to determine the current Oracle FC HBA Driver and Firmware versions on a Solaris 11 server?
How to determine the latest Oracle FC HBA Driver and Firmware versions available for Solaris 11?
How to upgrade to latest Oracle FC HBA Driver and Firmware version on a Solaris 11 server?
How to upgrade to specific (not necessarily latest) Oracle FC HBA Driver and Firmware version on a Solaris 11 server?
How to downgrade to different Oracle FC HBA Driver and Firmware version on a Solaris 11 server?

- Oracle branded QLogic Fibre Channel HBAs automatically load the firmware version embedded in the qlc driver at boot.
- Some NON-Oracle QLogic Fibre Channel HBAs binding to the qlc driver may load the firmware version embedded in the qlc driver at boot as well.
- Any update to NON-Oracle QLogic Fibre Channel HBA firmware needs to come from the NON-Oracle Qlogic HBA hardware support vendor.
- Oracle branded Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs do not automatically load firmware at boot and require a force-lip to update the firmware to the version embedded in the emlxs driver.
- Reference Firmware Update Required. (A Manual Hba Reset Or Link Reset (Using Luxadm Or Fcadm) Is Required (Doc ID 1356876.1)
- The emlxs driver does not include embedded firmware for the Oracle branded Emulex 16 Gb or 32 Gb Fibre Channel PCIe Universal HBA or Express Module.
- Download latest firmware versions from https://www.broadcom.com/support/oem/oracle-fc/
- NON-Oracle Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs binding to the emlxs driver will only use the firmware version already flashed on the HBA.
- The firmware embedded in the emlxs driver will not download onto NON-Oracle Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs.
- Any update to NON-Oracle Emulex Fibre Channel HBA firmware needs to come from the NON-Oracle Emulex HBA hardware support vendor.
