Receive two different errors when opening VirtualCenter Server remote console connections to ESX VMs. One error states, "Connection could not be made because the target machine actively refused it." The other error states, "Cannot connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host failed to respond."
This problem is seen when changing ESX Server Service Console ethernet devices from pNICs (physical NICs) to vNICs (virtual NICs) or vNICs to pNICS using esxcfg-vswif commands from ESX Server Service Console CLI interface.
