Symptoms
While using a Japanese 106 keyboard, with a Virtual Machine hosted with Oracle VM VirtualBox software, one would notice that special keys such as "]" are not able to be type in, i.e. they do not appear.
Changes
Effective from Oracle VM VirtualBox version 4.0, a change was introduced where VirtualBox switched to using the X11 XKB keyboard extension for detecting the mapping to use between the host keyboard keys and the emulated guest keyboard.
