Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Some users would like to use gdm login manager instead of the default cde login manager(dtlogin).
However, gdm fails to start on SPARC T-series server and the users probably get the following error.

Feb 26 14:07:17 xxxxxxx gdm[12722]: [ID 702911 daemon.error] gdm_secondary_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Feb 26 14:07:24 xxxxxxx gdm[12721]: [ID 702911 daemon.error] Failed to start X server several times in a short time period; disabling
display :0

Changes

This could happen immediately after disabled cde-login and enable gdm2-login.

$ svcadm disable cde-login
$ svcadm enable gdm2-login
