Sftransport(SFT) stop working, error: "Can't read input from console" (Doc ID 1534628.1)

The sftransport command generates errors when trying to use it.

shutdown, abort, start, info, printconfig all give "Can't read input from console"

root@iron [/var/opt/SUNWsftransport/transfer/priority]
 /opt/SUNWsftransport/bin/sftransport --shutdown
Exception in thread "main" Can't read input from console.
