Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) Can NOT Create Metadevice - Metainit Fails With "not a disk device" (Doc ID 1534634.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to mirror the boot disk with SVM, the metainit command returns an error:

 

Changes

 In this case we had to replace a disk and reverted to using normal disk devices instead of SVM devices for the boot disk.
