Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Administrators upgrading from Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) 3.2.2 to version 3.3.x, may observe that the upgrade appears to complete without errors, but does not result in a successful upgrade.

In this scenario, the following attributes may be seen:

# cacaoadm status -i vda com.sun.vda.service
Operational State:DISABLED
Administrative State:UNLOCKED
Availability Status:[FAILED]
Module is not in good health.
# /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-center status

Could not retrieve database status. The VDI Service is currently unavailable.

HOST NAME HOST STATUS SERVICE SERVICE STATUS
host1 Up - -
host2 Up - -
host3 Up - -

3 host(s) in center.

Additionally, the cacao.0 log may show the following attribute:

08-Mar-2013 19:03:05 com.sun.vda.service.core.ServiceModule$Initializer run
SEVERE: thr#14 Caught exception: Startup of com.sun.vda.service module failed: Exception [EclipseLink-4011] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 1.1.2.v20090612-r4475): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.DatabaseException
Exception Description: Error preallocating sequence numbers.  The sequence table information is not complete.
NOTE: The cacao log may be found in different locations, depending on the host OS that VDI has been installed on.
 - For Linux servers the file is found by default in: /var/opt/sun/cacao2/instances/vda/log
 - For Solaris servers, the file is found by default in: /var/cacao/instances/vda/logs

Finally, the vda-config log file (found by default in: /var/adm/log) may show:
