How to Avoid Circulating Dependencies When installing Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure on Oracle Linux

(Doc ID 1540860.1)

Last updated on MAY 05, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - Version 3.4.1 to 3.5.1 [Release 3.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Before installing Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) on an Oracle Linux (OL) platform, one needs to configure Automatic Software Update tool - 'yum' for the server.

When configuring 'yum', it would be necessary to enable following items / repositories on the '/etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-el5.repo' file:

   [ol5_u7_base]
   [el5_addons]
   [el5_oracle_addons]
   [ol5_UEK_base]

 However, this will cause following dependency conflict when running 'yum update' command:

 --> Finished Dependency Resolution
   kernel-uek-2.6.39-300.26.1.el5uek.x86_64 from ol5_UEK_base has depsolving problems
     --> kernel-uek conflicts with udev
   kernel-uek-2.6.39-300.26.1.el5uek.x86_64 from ol5_UEK_base has depsolving problems
     --> Missing Dependency: mkinitrd >= 5.1.19.6-71.0.10 is needed by package kernel-uek-2.6.39-300.26.1.el5uek.x86_64 (ol5_UEK_base)
   Error: kernel-uek conflicts with udev
   Error: Missing Dependency: mkinitrd >= 5.1.19.6-71.0.10 is needed by package kernel-uek-2.6.39-300.26.1.el5uek.x86_64 (ol5_UEK_base)
