Last updated on OCTOBER 29, 2016

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8.0 to 10 1/13 U11 [Release 8.0 to 10.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Submitting a print job from Solaris system to a remote Windows 2008 print server prints the job successfully, but generates an error on the Windows 2008 print server:

The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) service received a print job from root in an unsupported print format.
This can occur if the printer driver on the client is configured to use a print data type that is unsupported by this printer.
The document may not print correctly as a result.

Changes

There were changes made to default print queue creations beginning with SunOS 5.10: lp patch 145798-05.  This patch is now obsoleted and the fix is now in kernel patch 144500-19.
