Can the same port 161 on the System ILOM and on the Solaris OS be used for SNMP? (Doc ID 1549658.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 08, 2019

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 3/05 to 11.3 [Release 10.0 to 11.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The system has the SNMP Agent configured In the system's ILOM using the defined SNMP Agent port 161 for hardware monitoring and traps, alerts.
The concern and question was would running a SNMP Agent in the Solaris OS, such as SMA that is provided with Solaris 10, conflict with port 161 being used in the ILOM? Can the same 161 port be used in the OS for monitoring SNMP as well?

Is there a need to install additional software in the Solaris OS?
