X4270 M2 Server : When upgrading ILOM/BIOS FW from SW 1.3 to SW 1.6/1.7 system becomes non-bootable, reseting itself indefinitely
Last updated on AUGUST 14, 2017
Applies to:Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
X4270M2 running SW 1.3 (ILOM version 18.104.22.168 build r61398) + Erie-INT (SGX-SAS6-INT-Z) with LSI firmware 05.00.17.00
When upgrading the ILOM/BIOS FW from SW 1.3 to the version contained under SW 1.6 or SW 1.7 the server becomes non-bootable.
The server is rebooting itself shortly after the LSI controller is initialized.
After attempted to apply FW 1.6, FW 1.6.1 and FW 1.7 to several SF X4270 M2. On each attempt, the ILOM reports that the BIOS and system firmware upgrade was successful. However, the servers kept rebooting indefinitely.
As a workaround, downgrade the ILOM/BIOS back to the previous version.
