Smbclient and Net Fails To Authenticate And Posts NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER Error After Patch Upgraded Samba To Version 3.6.8 (Doc ID 1568074.1)

Symptoms

The smbclient command would fail to authenticate the Samba or Windows Domain User and return a NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER error.

# smbclient //server.domain/share -U username -W DOMAIN
Enter username's password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER


A smbclient run with the debug level 5 option, -d 5, would return the following output:

# smbclient -d 5 -L server.domain  -U username -W DOMAIN

Substituting charset '646' for LOCALE
cli_session_setup: NT1 session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER

Additionally, the net command ie., net rpc join; net ads join; have been seen to fail with the same errors:

cli_session_setup: NT1 session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER

 

Changes

 System patching install Solaris 10 Samba Patch 119757-26 that upgraded the Samba version to 3.6.8 from the earlier 3.5.8 version that the system had installed.
